Your Options

Think you're pregnant?

When you are faced with an unplanned pregnancy, it is easy to make impulsive or uninformed decisions. Thinking about the possibility of pregnancy can create stress and cause you to make a quick decision without considering how this may impact your future. It is important that you stop and think through all your options before making any major decisions even though it is difficult to imagine the future.

You have three options: you can choose to carry the baby to term and parent him or her yourself, you can place the baby for adoption, or you can have an abortion. The choice is yours, and it is one of the biggest decisions you will make in your entire life. Despite the stress, you need to weigh your alternatives before you choose, carefully considering the options based on facts and information, not just on emotions.

Choosing to Parent

Parenting can be both a very rewarding AND challenging experience. Anyone choosing to parent may feel many different emotions - both positive and negative. You may feel excited and happy, but also quite nervous and scared - especially if this is your first child.

If you are planning to parent, it is important that you have support. When you have that support, it helps you to deal with some of the emotional and/or physical responses to your pregnancy.

If you are in need of support, please call our Hotline to find out how we can help you.

PDHC is there for you during and after your pregnancy. During your pregnancy, you may come to our Maternity Boutique and select three maternity outfits. These may be exchanged throughout your pregnancy. Once the baby is born, and if you are parenting, PDHC wants to provide you and your child with a layette. A layette contains baby clothing and supplies for the first six months of life. To obtain a baby layette, you (the new mother) need to call the 24-hour hotline to make an appointment, then come to the layette appointment with the baby's crib card from the hospital. There is no charge to use the Maternity Boutique or to obtain a layette.

The Adoption Alternative

You never planned to have to make this decision.

While it may be difficult to carry your baby for nine months and place him/her with a family who will provide for all his/her needs, it is important to recognize that for some, adoption is the responsible and mature decision. You are choosing what is best for you as well as the baby.

Abortion

Abortion is not a quick fix to a problem; it is a surgical procedure that can place women at risk for significant physical, emotional and spiritual complications. Many women who have experienced abortion have said that they wish they were told the facts about abortion and what their options were prior to making their decision. Abortion is not something you have to do tomorrow. You have time to think through your options. Abortion is a permanent decision with significant consequences; it is important for your health and safety that you are fully informed before making a major decision that will affect your life forever.
